Seeing is believing, but what if you can see things no one else can?
Sixteen year old MacKenzie Bryan has your typical problems. You know, parents, boys, angels with special deliveries, homework, demons delivering cryptic messages, and…hold on, wait. Doesn’t every teenager have to balance doing their homework while fighting the rising dark forces in a new town while still making it home before curfew? If the demons don’t kill her, her father will.
You probably think this is just another book about some teenager, but what if it’s not? What if there are things that you don’t see? What if you are supposed to be more?
What if you are ……CALLED?
Warrior eBook EJ McCay
Wow! I ended up loving this story. I was not hooked on Called Warrior by EJ McCay from page one and found it quite strange. I wasn’t sure what to think when the main character, Mackenzie started seeing giant spiders and making a complete fool of herself in front of a group of high school girls, but then the humor started.I should not have been reading this in a public place because I couldn’t stop laughing and people probably thought I was crazy. There were parts of the book that dragged, but overall it was very well-written.
There was just enough romance and adventure to make it fun, and enough mystery and intrigue to keep me guessing. It was a little predictable, but most Young Adult novels are.
EJ McCay’s writing style is great and the character development was well-done. I liked the underlying message of hope and good winning over evil.
I loved Called Warrior, and highly recommend it.

Warrior eBook EJ McCay Reviews
I loved this book! Easy read and very entertaining. Great Christian reading.
Enjoyed it.
Interesting read! I like the main character and the way she interacts with other characters
This is a YA paranormal mystery. I liked it, although the ending seemed abrupt and a little clumsy. I did, however, like the spiritual aspect of the book and the story line was unusual. I would read more from this author.
Thanks to my friend, Marian, for letting me know this book was free. Never heard of this author, but the more I read the more I HAD to keep reading! Didn't agree with certain spiritual aspects of the story, but really loved the writing and MacKenzie was easy to like from the start. Also loved her friendship with Ronda and her romance with Alex. A very clean read about a super smart girl who fights and kills demons while struggling to keep her life balanced. Great cover and couldn't put it down!
I enjoyed the different writing and subject matter of this book. Very seldom do we see/read about spiritual battles, which are very real. There were a handful of typos, but the main reason I couldn't give 5 stars is the lack of conviction of sin (lying, cheating, etc) the characters experienced. Know those on fire for God aren't perfect, but definitely are called out by the Holy Spirit when they sin.
If you like first-person sassy teen spiritual warrior books, this is your book. Well-written, fast-paced. And yes, abuse can happen in pastoral families. Perhaps a reader somewhere will find the courage to speak up after reading this book. What little I did dislike is what I dislike about nearly all popular books with teen protagonists. Everybody was improbably attractive. The good adults were all "here's money and who needs a curfew and let me buy you stuff' and all. And perhaps I misunderstood, but I think the good adults got married after having two children only because the church nagged them into it? Is that really the message we want to give our children? So that took me out of the story. If you aren't a quibbler like me, you will like this action, romance, and thriller book.
